How Circleville got its name

The name came from Mrs. Mary Bull, who thought Circleville, in Ohio, was a very pleasant name. Her family also gave the hamlet its church: Samuel Bull donated five acres for the Circleville Presbyterian Church (today’s Circleville Church), which was organized in November 1841 and built in 1842. The post office opened in 1850, and by 1881 the hamlet also had blacksmith, wagon and shoe shops and two creameries.

The Fourth of July, 1913
Probably the only place for many miles around to celebrate our great National Holiday was the little hamlet of Circleville, five miles north of Middletown.
The Middletown Daily Times-Press reported peanuts and lemonade, baseball games, the Ruggles Fife and Drum Corps, the Declaration of Independence read from the church steps, and a parade with Uncle Sam and Columbia on horseback. Read the 1913 report
